ESL Information

The language of instruction is English. A large number of our students do not speak English at home. We meet fully our responsibility to enable students to participate in the mainstream curriculum. We achieve this by delivering a well-staffed, comprehensive English as a Second Language (ESL) programme.

This programme works in two ways.

a) “push-in” – the ESL teacher goes into the mainstream classroom to work with the students needing ESL support

b) “pull-out” – the ESL teacher withdraws students from certain mainstream classes, to give separate tuition in English.

Students can take between one and three years before fully exiting the ESL Programme. Relevant handbooks with full details are available at school for your information.
